(General)

Here are some common questions about LPPF event.

LPPF is a smaller-scale, one/two-day music event held every alternate year in Singapore. It serves as a stepping stone to the larger Singapore Performers’ Festival (SPF) and provides a non-competitive, nurturing environment for musicians to showcase their skills.

While SPF lasts five to seven days and culminates with a gala concert, LPPF is a weekend event offering a sampler experience to the larger SPF.

SPF comprises:

(A) The main performance branch with categories such as:

  • Piano: solo, ensemble (1 piano, 4, 6 or 8 hands)
  • Strings: violin, viola, cello
  • Chamber groups: piano or string trio/quartet
  • Solo voice

​with:

  1. TWO adjudicators’ feedback.
  2. Trophies for Gold & Platinum recipients.
  3. Awards such as:​ ​scholarships for Platinum recipients ​and handmade violin/viola/cello bows for string recipients whose teachers are SMTA members.

(B) The competition branch with categories (in 8th PF 2024) such as:

  • Chamber music competition (max. quartet, age 18 & below)
  • Churen Prize for Young Musicians (NEW!)celebrating Singapore piano works specially commissioned for 8th PF 2024!
  • Dennis Lee Prize for Outstanding Debussy (NEW!) – for solo piano
  • FIMA Scholarship Prize - Tier 1 (NEW!) – for solo piano

LPPF focuses on performance and provides adjudicated feedback without competitive pressure.

Entry is free for family, friends, and the public to encourage support and engagement.

Reporting Letter

  • The reporting letter (stating the performance date, reporting time and repertoire) will be sent to applicants via WhatsApp about 2 weeks before the event. Please check for any errors. No change of repertoire is allowed.
  • Please contact SMTA should you not hear from us.

  • Any amendments/changes to your registration must be done within the registration period. Please copy and save the link “Edit your Response” at the Registration Acknowledgement Page to access your registration.
  • No change/amendment is allowed after registration closes.
  • Fee to reprint loss of certificate is S$20.
  • Fee for amendment to the certificate is S$20.

8th LPPF 2025 will occur on June 14th & 15th at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Campus 3.

  • Piano & Piano Ensemble: Multi-Purpose Hall, Level 4 (Fazioli grand piano).
  • Strings & Chamber Groups: Recital Hall, Level 5 (Steinway grand piano for accompaniment).

Registration opens from May 1st to May 7th. Each participant must register individually. The registration form can be found at https://www.smtasingapore.com/8th-lppf-2025 

  • A supportive performance environment—not a competition to outwit another.
  • Freedom of repertoire selection, allowing performers to choose their own pieces.
  • Live audience experience, improving confidence and stage presence.
  • Adjudicated feedback, including verbal and written comments.
  • Certificate & video recording, useful for auditions or Music Elective Programs.
  • Listening, observing and learning from fellow participants’ performances.

Performers may opt to have award levels (platinum, gold, silver, or bronze awards) indicated on their comment sheets, but these are based on qualitative assessment rather than numeric grading.

Performers register for a block of 10-minute sessions. (Repertoire duration can be less than 10 mins.) Participants can choose to register for additional time if needed. Details can be found at https://www.smtasingapore.com/8th-lppf-2025.

No, there will be no dedicated warm-up spaces for pianists. String players, however, will have a tuning room.  

  • Formal wear: shirt with long pants, dress or skirts, shoes that are pedal-friendly.
  • Attire and performance etiquette will be taken into consideration in the adjudication.

Participants must bring original scores or authorized digital versions for adjudicators' reference. Bar numbers must be clearly marked.

  • Each group of performers will be ushered to the waiting/performing area and exit together when the whole group of performers has finished. The adjudicator will give verbal feedback at the end of each group.
  • Parents and teachers are not allowed at the waiting area.

  • Certificates will be handed out at the event.
  • Comment sheets will be sent via WhatsApp (PDF format).
  • Video recordings will be shared later via a link.

(String Ensemble Workshop)

Here are some common questions about LPPF event.

You should learn the excerpts in as great detail as possible and record it to the best of your ability. Your playing does not have to be perfect, as the recording is intended for the tutors to have a better understanding of your ensemble skills.  This is to enable us to give you the best experience when you come together as an ensemble.

Following the bowings and all marked articulations shows that you are aware of the details in the score. Please follow them as best as you can.

Yes

Excerpts marked “METRONOME USE” are required to be played with the metronome.  The metronome will need to be heard in the background as you are playing your excerpt.  Please refer to the following video link for an example of what an excerpt should sound like played with the metronome in the background. https://youtu.be/sq7dkezKmTY

You may use your phone or video camera to record the excerpts.  It does not need to be professionally recorded.  Please follow the guidelines indicated in the registration form.  A tutorial video is provided for you to follow as an example. https://youtu.be/sq7dkezKmTY  

You will need to create a YouTube account.  Once your account is created, you can follow the step-by-step tutorial on the following link to see how to upload your video as an unlisted link.  The tutorial will also show you how to copy the link to put on your registration form.
