Supporting Musical Talents at the Singapore Performers' Festival
6th SINGAPORE PERFORMERS’ FESTIVAL &
CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION 2016
June 19 – 25
~ A SMTA Initiative since 2006 ~
Dear potential sponsor,
Sponsorship of the Performers’ Festival Scholarship
It’s been more than a decade now since I first moved to the Lion City to take up the position as Founding Head of Piano Studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YSTCM). Well before arriving in Singapore I was acquainted with the Republic’s reputation for musical talent, one of the primary reasons I wished to become part of a thriving new music institution in the midst of an impressive, dynamic music scene. The extent of young musical talent I have seen in this country amazes me to this day - concert after concert we are introduced to exciting young new performers - but what’s really striking is the extent to which music study is revered by parents who wish to ensure that their children receive the best musical education possible, and where early exposure to the arts appears forefront in the country’s educational focus.
Back in 2006 when The Singapore Music Teachers’ Association (SMTA) introduced the Performers’ Festival (PF), an exciting, new musical endeavour was launched. It was (and still is!) unique in that it provides musicians of all ages with a platform in which to showcase their talents before a live audience. It is a festival and not a competition or an exam. Repertoire of one’s own choosing is played before a live public audience, and following the performance a video recording is offered to the student along with constructive written feedback from a panel of internationally renowned adjudicators.
PF 2016 is going to be bigger (with the introduction of Solo Voice) and better than ever, with yet another projected increase in performers who will also qualify for one of five levels of awards. Moreover, several outstanding young talents will receive monetary scholarship awards and this is where we hope you can help, as the Performer’s Festival would not be possible without sponsors for these scholarships. These will be awarded at the exciting Gala Final Concert and this year we’d like to challenge enthusiasts from every sector of the musical community to help us raise the bar even higher with additional scholarships which provide assistance to the most deserving students in Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello and Voice.
Won’t you help reward these students for their talent and efforts by kindly joining our team of sponsors? Your assistance would go a long way in supporting musicians of tomorrow.
Please have a look at the Sponsorship Form and let us know if we can provide any further information for you at this time. The 6th Performer’s Festival & Chamber Music Competition will soon convene at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in June 19 - 25, and I know that together we can make this year’s Festival the best yet!
Thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness,
Prof Dr Thomas Hecht, SMTA Life Member
