In association with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, The Singapore Music Teachers’ Association is pleased to present a new series of specialised piano topics conducted by renowned pedagogue and pianist, Professor Thomas Hecht, Head of Piano Studies (YSTCM).
Interested piano teachers who wish to supplement and enrich their studio teaching with ‘hands-on’ classes should apply now on a first-come-first-serve basis for 12 places only by completing the registration form below. Applications must be received by Thursday, 17th Jan 2013.
Teachers will be expected to participate in class under Professor Hecht’s supervision. Sessions will be held in the Conservatory’s Keyboard Lab, where each participant will be provided with a Yamaha Clavinova.
The first session will offer an overview of the ongoing “dialogue” between hands and feet during learning stages and ways teachers can help notate these connections in their students’ scores.
Session II continues onward to include various aspects of rhythmic organization which can be highly effective in laying more “sound” foundations for a piece.
An introduction to the “choreography of the pianist” where fingering philosophies are discussed and then extended to include concepts of “wristings” & “armings” as well.
Participants will learn techniques for more strategic pedaling and enjoy exploring the many aspects of the art of vibration!
